Unity University Stages 11th Annual Architectural Exhibition
Research and subsequent design works should not be done to be thrown away after such occasions. They should be thoroughly thought out and done in such a way that they could be brought into reality. This, however, does not mean to limit your sphere of imagination and the scope of your dreams. This statement was made by Dr. Arega Yirdaw, President of Unity University and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MIDROC Technology Group, on October 2, 2016, at the closing of the 11th Annual Architectural Exhibition.
Dr. Arega Yirdaw who visited the Exhibition, which was organised by students of the Architecture and Urban Planning Department, College of Engineering, Technology and Computational Sciences, Unity University, and stayed open for the public from September 29 to October 2, 2016, expressed his appreciation of the work done and thanked all those who contributed towards the successful outcome. In the course of his visit, the President was expressing his views about the various design works, which held his attention.
One among such works that strongly held his attention was the Urban Planning Section, which presented a detailed account of Tefki town, Sabata District, Oromia Region. The work presented detailed studies of the town in the spheres of the History, Population and Demography, Existing Land Use, Circulation Network, Infrastructure, Housing Construction, Urban Environment, Urban Economy and Finance, as well as Urban Management. Expressing his satisfaction, Dr. Arega said, “I am impressed by the depth of the study and the work done on Tefki town. It is commendable/ ወርቅ ነው!. In the future, such works could be income generating.” As a follow up, Dr. Arega declared that Architecture students would take the task of doing similar study for the town of Woldia, for which he allotted 100, 000 Birr. The idea was welcomed with applause.
