Unity Signs Memorandum of Understanding with OSSREA
Unity University signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Organisation for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA) on April 21, 2017, in the Conference Hall of OSSREA, located on the premises of Addis Ababa University. The MoU was signed by Dr. AregaYirdaw, President of Unity University, and Dr. Truphena E. Mukuna, Executive Director (a.i.) of OSSREA.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Truphena E. Mukuna, underlined that the MoU just signed was a sign of the commitment on the part of the two institutions to work together. The Executive Director went on to note that the idea started long ago; and added, “We have had several discussions, which culminated in the signing of the MoU.” She further stated that the whole idea of the agreement revolved around enhancing quality education; and reiterated “OSSREA does capacity building in higher education institutions.” She added, “This is the beginning of great things to come.”
Also speaking on his part, Dr. AregaYirdaw, President of Unity University, underlined that Unity University is the pioneer private higher education institution in the country and stressed that Unity would like to have connections with universities outside Ethiopia. He further noted that Unity would like to have PhD programmes. The President underscored, “Every progress we make depends on the commitment of our teams.” In conclusion, the President invited Dr. Mukuna to visit the Head Office and Main Campus of Unity University.
The MoU stipulates that among the purposes of the alliance are: to explore possibilities of submitting joint fundable research, launching PhD programmes, organising annual conferences on identified themes of joint interest, knowledge sharing, research uptake, and capacity building proposals in Africa; building capacity of staff members on specific issues like research methodology; and mobilising resources – financial, human, as well as material – to support the implementation of the aforementioned.
Present on the occasion were Management bodies and senior staff of the two institutions.
