Unity Academy Community Marks 12th Nations, Nationalities, Peoples Day
Students, teaching and administrative staff of Unity Academy Gerji Branch marked the Twelfth Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day on December 8, 2017, in the Amphitheatre of the Academy, with active involvement of children from Nursery and Grades One to Eight.
Prior to the official opening of the programme for the Day, children clad in various nations and nationalities costumes were demonstrating traditional dances to the tunes of festive traditional songs played by the team from Unity Studio. The festive mood of the Day was heightened by the colourful traditional dresses of the children and their enthusiastic participation in the traditional dances.
Speaking at the opening of the programme, which was conducted by two students who responsibly acted as Masters of Ceremony, Wz. Asselefech G/Kidan, Principal of the Academy, who herself was clad in the traditional white dress, welcomed all in attendance and pointed out the significance of the event. She underlined that the Day marks the ratification of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, which is the supreme law of the country.
The Principal noted that although the Day was marked for the twelfth time at national level, Unity Academy Gerji Branch was marking the event for the fifth time since its establishment in 2013. Wz. Asselefech further noted that what added new element to the marking of the Day by the Academy community was that there were Unity University students participating in the programme.
At the opening of the programme, all in attendance stood in attention when the National Anthem was played by the Unity Studio team. This was followed by various songs, short dramas, traditional dances, fashion show in various nationality dresses, talent show, question and answer contest, and poetry recital. All presentations depicted the diversity of Ethiopia’s nations and nationalities; and the beauty and unity of the people in the diversity. They also demonstrated the long-standing tradition of the Ethiopian people respecting the diverse cultural values of the various nations and nationalities.
Among the slogans posted at the entrance to the Amphitheatre were:
“Our diversity is the firm foundation for our strength.”
“Our Constitution is the manifestation of our identity.”
“Ethiopia is the totality of united nationalities.”
Present on the occasion were officials of Unity University, teaching and administrative staff of the Academy, as well as representatives of Unity University students.
