Unity Academy Children Mark Annual Fruit Day
Nursery and KG children of Unity Academy, Gerji Branch, marked the Annual Fruit Day on April 21, 2017, on the premises of the Academy, in the presence of representatives of the parent-Teachers Association (PTA), the General Education Office and teachers of the Academy.
Speaking at the opening of the annual event, which was marked for the fourth time, Wz. Tenagnework Yohannes, in charge of the Nursery and KG Section, welcomed all in attendance and thanked the audience for joining the children on such an occasio9n. She further underlined that the event was organised to instill in children the concept of fruits, which they had already encountered during their classroom lessons. “The programme will enable the children to touch and test fruits and get empirical knowledge of the concept, which they learnt in class by drawing and painting pictures”, she added.
Having said this, Wz. Tenagnework introduced the programme for the Day, which involved various songs, activities and competitions. Among the songs were:
My favourite fruit is pineapple (the name of the fruit changes into mango, papaya, orange, banana, etc.)
It is green (the colour changes according to the colour of the fruit).
Look at it
This is fruit
While singing the songs, the children raised high pictures of the various fruits they were introducing.
Among the competitions and activities were grouping fruits and peeling and eating fruits. In the first case, sample fruits were put on the ground and children were requested to take fruits from a table and group them with the right sample fruit. In the second case, upon hearing a whistle blown by the judge, the children started to peel the oranges in their hands and ate them. The one who finished peeling and eating the orange was the winner.
At the closing of the programme, all in attendance were invited to help themselves with the various fruits.
