University Advancement Relations

The University Advancement and Relations (UAR) office had come into existence as a result of the merger between the former External Relations and Corporate Communication Units of the university. According to the new organizational chart of the Unity University, (UU) the UAR is directly responsible to the president.

The major tasks of the UAR are the following:-

  • To promote the image of the University both at home and abroad among institutions of higher learning, international organizations as well as the public at large.
  • To create and promote sound relations with international organizations such as the relevant UN agencies, endowment foundations, universities, colleges and business enterprises within the country and overseas with a view to formulate and carry out joint research and educational exchange programs that will assist the growth and advancement of the university.

The basic day-to-day functions of the office are divided between two sections namely, internal and external relations. While the external relations aspect of the operation is currently at an initial stage, the internal public relations activity has been going on for some time under the Corporate Communication Unit.

Currently the internal or domestic public relations function is being carried out mainly by publishing a monthly newsletter in Amharic and English entitled "The Voice of Unity University" and by buying broadcasting services for topical news and comment. Currently we are working with Sheger FM Radio through contractual arrangements. Additional promotional activities are also carried out by placing advertisements on Ethiopian Television and by buying space in the private newspapers occasionally.

The Audiovisual Section and the Unity Band are two auxiliary units of the UAR that can support and enhance promotion activities. These two units were created to serve as training center for the school of Journalism and Communication and to support the university as auxiliary sections of Corporate Communication.
